With me what you see is what you get. No pretence, no masking my feelings. I am what you see!!!!
With about nearly 20 films under her belt she is one of the top heroines in the Kannada Film Industry.
Beginnings:
I come from an orthodox Panjabi family. I did my schooling in New Delhi. My father is a businessman. My mother has always been my pillar of strength. She is one I go to discuss anything. She has been a tremendous support.
It was during my school days that I thought of modeling and films. I always liked to dress up. But none of our family members are in films. But I was keen on joining films and try my luck in this film industry. For me the most important thing was that I believed in myself. I knew I had it in me to be a good artiste.
My first break was in Bengali films. My first movie is called Tumake Salam in 2003. Then followed a Tamil film Kokki. Few months after Kokki, Mungaru Male came my way and as they rest is history.
Current:
Mungaru Male became a biggest grosser of the Kannada Film. Of course it did not immediately bring me any offers. Of course there were times when things were not going according to a plan, but I stuck it out.
I am a positive person, I believe in God. I was very patient and kept on waiting. I knew God is with me. I did not allow the frustration to set in. I knew I had it in me to make it to the top.
Slowly things started changing for me. I got Krishna and then offers started pouring in.
Some of the films that I did had me in small roles, but those films were offered to me even before Krishna. I did Milana because I wanted to act with Puneeth, I hope to do full length feature film with him. The length of the roles did not matter to me but my character mattered to me always.
I believe in being versatile artiste. Am equally comfortable in glamorous roles and action girl roles too. After all the song and dance routine Anu will see me doing some action sequences.
Am continuing to do different roles; my latest film Huchchi will feature her as mentally challenged person. The movie Anu gave me the courage to accept roles which do not go with the conventional image of a heroine. Yes some of the movies that I have done have not done well at the box office, but I don’t regret doing them. I always put in my best effort and leave the rest to God and the audience.
I am a fast learner and have learnt the language kannada very quickly. I even dubbed for my movie Ninagagi Kadhiruve. I owe it to the Kannada audience.
I am not a party girl; I like to spend her time at home with my family and sisters.
Sanjana Gandhi/Pooja Gandhi
Am glad that I am back to my original name Pooja Gandhi. Initially when I entered the industry I was told that since there is already another heroine with the name Pooja it should be changed to Sanjana. I reluctanty agreed. Infact at events when ever people addressed me as Sanjana, I would take few minutes to react. I was very uncomfortable and I decided to go back to my original name Pooja Gandhi- its me and its my identity, its who I am.
